Founded in 1992 under the name Intelrom, Comtel has been on a path of evolution and growth for over 20 years. In 1998, Intelrom and other corporate entities merged into what would later become Comtel, marking the beginning of a new era for the company. Since 2002, with the acquisition of the "Transmission Equipment and Radio Links" branch from Alcatel Italia, Comtel launched the Carrier Division. A phase of expansion followed with the opening of new offices and the birth of strategic divisions such as Enterprise and Voice, the latter later becoming VoIP and then VoIPCloud. In 2006, a further business unit was acquired from Alcatel Italia, "Technical Assistance and Testing of Transport Equipment", which constitutes the Comtel Assurance group.

Reconfigured as a joint-stock company in 2007, Comtel continued to innovate with new locations and the introduction of additional solutions, services and specialisations, including Network and SBC (Session Border Control) solutions in 2010, vertical PA in 2012, Transmission & Access solutions in 2015 and Network Security in 2019. The Comtel Academy was also launched in the same period.

In 2020, the company joined the Nextaly group, extending its specializations and offer with the vertical Hospitality and, in the following years, with the Modern Work and Data Center Solutions & Services solutions, the Private and Finance verticals and, in 2023, the Cloud & IT Transformation and Cybersecurity solutions.

Today, under the guidance of CEO Fabio Lazzerini, ComTel promotes innovation in the ICT systems integration sector, also thanks to an ambitious three-year Industrial Plan (2024-2026).
