Flavia Sparacino is an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Comtel. Expert in the field of artificial intelligence and its applications in smart spaces, she is the founder of Sensing Places, a technology innovation and experiential design studio based in Los Angeles.

Founded in 2006 in Santa Monica, California as a spin-off of MIT, Sensing Places creates Smart Spaces and offers consulting and design for large surfaces, including airports, stadiums, workspaces, cultural centres and museums. Several contributions have been made worldwide, including the Beijing Daxing Airport and Gehry Partners' Resorts World Sentosa.

Flavia Sparacino's background includes studies in artificial intelligence at the Politecnico di Milano and robotics at CentraleSupelec in Paris. Dr. Sparacino earned a PhD at MIT in Boston with Alex Pentland and Nicholas Negroponte. She is a pioneer and innovator in various technologies such as gesture control for interactive applications, interactive body-controlled stage projections for dance and theatre, as well as wearable computers for museum visitors, anticipating innovations such as Microsoft's Kinect and Google Glass by many years.

Her works have been exhibited at MOMA, SFMOMA, SIGGRAPH, Ars Electronica, and the Redcat Theater in Los Angeles and have been documented by The Boston Globe, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Discovery Channel, Arte, and NHK.

A Knight of the Italian Republic, she has received numerous mentions for her research work at MIT (MIT IP license awards), as well as recently receiving the USA and World Award for the Art and Technology category from Women in Tech Global.
